Yes, this is another Canadian baby's death which a $40 simple blood test could have saved her life. As expecting parents we only look for the positive and block out anything negative. Please refer to globalnational.com mail issue about Tammy Clark's baby printed Thurs. March 30, 2006. Type $40 test could have saved her baby's life.
It's horrible to find out that Vancouver General Hospital closed their blood lab and is renting out space and paying for blood work to be done at the new recently built [private] Diamond Building. As I investigate this subject [LCHAD] with a variety of involved health care individuals, I am learning our health care is turning more and more into a business. Young babies are suffering and dying because there is a limited amount of $ dispersed within our health care system. I strongly believe that there are more baby deaths happening due to types of metabolic disorders which simply can be treated if diagnosed early. Health individuals do agree [as I've been told] this silent killer is out there and they have evidence to support funding for this added comprehensive newborn screening. Early detection of disorders and conditions detectable through comprehensive newborn screening is vital. Although the newborn screening test detects disorders that cannot be cured, it's the EARLY intervention and treatment that is beneficial to avoid the initial crisis causing permanent damage or worse DEATH. I cannot sleep until each baby is tested.
I am begging all editors who review this e-mail to print this storey to encourage and educate the public the importance for comprehensive newborn screening to be standardized within Canada. Why does this vary from province to province? If only my baby was born in Saskatchewan? She would be alive
